Views of Moscow metro (subway), the fastest and the cheapest transportation around the city. The Moscow Metro is 269.5 km long and has 165 stations. Panoramas and close up shots of central stations beautifully decorated with mosaics, e.g. station Arbatskaya opened in March 1938. Views of metro Entrance with ‘M” sign; long escalators going up and down to the trains; Some escalators are too long because the stations are situated very deep beneath the earth. The reason for such deep construction was the beginning of the Cold War; stations were planned to serve for hiding people even in the case of nuclear war. Views of crowded metro stations, people going by subway; views inside the trains; doors closing, etc.
Rarest views filmed in 60th picturing the ‘Koganovich’ metro station in B/W. While building the Moscow metro meant to be a “palace” for common people. The construction was lead by one of the Communist Party leaders, L. Kaganovich. Thus the whole Subway was named after his named. Later on Moscow subway was renamed after Vladimir Lenin.
We also posses footage of the Moscow Metro Museum with older trains and some mosaic panos. These views are not presented in this video clip.
